Andrew Mackelprang, OD

Dr. Andrew Mackelprang is an experienced optometrist providing the full scope of optometric care at Oro Valley Eyecare, in Oro Valley, Arizona. With a clinical emphasis on ocular surface disease, diabetic eye care, and dry eye management, Dr. Mackelprang is also skilled in diagnosing and treating meibomian gland dysfunction.

Dr. Mackelprang is an experienced surgical co-manager and a Certified Light Adjustment Specialist for Light Adjustable Lenses (LALs) at VisionLock. A strong collaborator, Dr. Mackelprang believes that surgical outcomes are optimized when communication is seamless and takes the time to understand each patient’s lifestyle, concerns, and goals to ensure they are informed, empowered, and comfortable with their treatment plan. Dr. Mackelprang also appreciates the opportunities for elevated patient care that LALs provide. “Helping LAL patients fine tune their vision after surgery is one of the most rewarding parts of postoperative care,” he shares. “It allows us to combine precise optical science with individualized patient feedback to create a truly customized visual outcome.”

Doctor Mackelprang obtained his Bachelor of Science at Brigham Young University, where he was an academic scholarship recipient, before earning his Doctor of Optometry at the Arizona College of Optometry, where he graduated with honors as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Society.

Committed to his professional community, Dr. Mackelprang is currently a member of both the Arizona Optometric Association and the Southern Arizona Optometric Society.

Dr. Mackelprang is also fluent in Spanish, enhancing his ability to provide clear communication and critical education to a wide population of patients in the area.
