Haleh Shams, O.D.
Dr. Haleh Shams is a highly skilled optometrist with clinical experience across medical, refractive, and surgical eye care. The founder and clinical director of Yellow Iris Eyecare in Altamonte Springs, FL. Dr. Shams has been serving the Central Florida community for over twenty years. Launching her career in The Villages, Dr. Shams trained under an ophthalmologist and forged a strong foundation in ocular disease management. She later spent many years with LasikPlus, gaining specialized experience in refractive surgery and patient counseling, and went on to collaborate with ophthalmologists and cataract surgeons to expand her expertise in perioperative care and advanced vision correction before establishing her own practice.
As a Certified Light Adjustment Specialist for Light Adjustable Lenses (LALs) with VisionLOCK, Dr. Shams draws on her decades of experience in perioperative care. “Much of my career has been collaborating with cataract and refractive surgeons, providing both pre- and post-operative care,” she explains. “This experience enables me to help patients navigate the surgical process confidently, ensuring they achieve the best possible outcomes through coordinated care.”
“I view surgical collaboration as a true partnership, between optometry, ophthalmology, and the patient,” she continues. “By maintaining open communication and shared goals, I can reinforce the surgeon’s plan and patient’s goals to provide the ongoing care patients need to recover successfully and maintain long-term vision health.”
She finds that LALs provide an ideal balance of innovation and care. “The ability to fine-tune vision after surgery is truly remarkable,” she says. “I like providing tailored, advanced technology to help patients see their best.”
Dr. Shams attended Nova Southeastern University, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree in Vision Science and her Doctor of Optometry.
Fluent in English, Farsi, and Swedish, Dr. Shams is adept at clearly communicating with a broad patient population.
