Dr. Joseph Pitcavage founded Lowcountry Eye Care almost two decades ago. A thriving practice with 8 locations in and around Charleston, South Carolina, Lowcountry Eye Care is highly regarded in the community, and a perennial “Charleston’s Choice” award winner. Providing comprehensive eye care, Dr. Pitcavage has a strong emphasis on primary care optometry including pediatric eye care, specialty/scleral contact lenses, myopia management, comprehensive eye exams and post-operative cataract surgery management.

A Certified Light Adjustment Specialist for Light Adjustable Lenses (LALs) with VisionLOCK, Dr. Pitcavage sees his role as “a true team member,” he says. “I collaborate closely with ophthalmic surgeons to support patients before and after cataract surgery. I ensure seamless continuity of care in the post-operative period by monitoring healing, addressing refractive outcomes, and optimizing visual rehabilitation.”

As the founder of Lowcountry Eyecare, Dr. Pitcavage is committed to combining a patient-first philosophy with the use of advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. And it is exactly this mission that led him to become a VisionLOCK provider and bring the benefits of LALs to his patients.

“Guiding patients through their lens adjustment journey, especially with LALs, is deeply rewarding,” Dr. Pitcavage shares. “There’s something incredibly gratifying about partnering in that process and witnessing their life-changing results.”

A graduate of College of Charleston, with a BS in biology, Dr. Pitcavage earned his Doctor of Optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.

Dr. Pitcavage is dedicated to the optometric community and maintains memberships in the American Optometric Association, the South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association, and the Coastal Carolina Optometric Society.
